Frequently Asked Questions

What if I make a mistake during the recording? Do I have to go back to the top and start over again?

No. We have audio editing software that allows the manipulation of recorded material much like Microsoft word can manipulate written material. This knowledge may help to diminish any fears associated with the recording process.

I have heard my voice played back and I don’t think it sounds like me. What can I do?

Relax… Simple psychoacoustics at work here…When we hear our own voice, we are accustomed to feeling it vibrate in our vocal cords, throats and skull as it travels away from us on it’s way to other’s ears. Consequently, playback of your recorded voice may not sound like you to you. It is not often that we hear our voice from this “odd” perspective. Have someone familiar with your voice have an objective listen and provide their opinion.

I’m a little apprehensive. What will I experience when I walk into the recording studio?

A little nervous energy can be a positive thing… Almost everybody has butterflies. Now, let’s show the butterflies how to fly in formation.  Arrive a little early and be familiar with the material you are going to record. Don’t wear jewelry that jangles or clothes that rustle. Don’t arrive hungry, your stomach may speak louder than your voice. Room temperature water is the preferred substance for lubricating your throat and providing longevity to your voice during the session. Another suggestion is decaffeinated tea or coffee, as caffeine can leave your throat dry. The engineer will check for technical settings by asking you to do a “mic check”, or speak a few lines. At this point you are not recording, the engineer is determining necessary audio settings. The engineer will give you plenty of notice prior to recording.

Refer to the “Recording Tips”, keep the focus on you and what you are doing, and do your best. We look forward to working with you.
